The 9th Edition of the World Peace Forum is currently taking place in Jakarta, Indonesia, bringing together global leaders, diplomats, and peace advocates to discuss democratic values and international cooperation.
Among the notable participants is former President of Kosovo, Atifete Jahjaga, who used the platform to highlight Kosovo’s journey toward democracy and equality and to urge Indonesia to recognize the independence of Kosovo.
Jahjaga Highlights Kosovo’s Path to Democracy and Women’s Leadership
In a statement shared on her official Facebook page, Jahjaga said that her address to the forum focused on key values such as democracy, gender equality, inclusion, and women’s leadership.
“The rise and rebuilding of the Republic of Kosovo before and after the war, the challenges and difficulties we faced, as well as my journey as the country’s first female president, were part of my speech,” Jahjaga wrote.
She proudly presented Kosovo’s story of resilience and success, emphasizing that her commitment to the country’s progress has continued beyond her presidential term, always guided by the public good and citizens’ welfare.
“My contribution to Kosovo has gone through different institutional phases and positions, but always with the same goal — the overall good of our citizens,” she added.
Call for Indonesia’s Recognition of Kosovo
During her address, Jahjaga made a direct appeal for Indonesia to formally recognize the Republic of Kosovo, stressing that such recognition would strengthen bilateral relations and support global peace and stability.
“In my remarks, I also emphasized the request for the recognition of the Republic of Kosovo by Indonesia,” she stated.
Indonesia remains one of the major countries in Asia that has not yet recognized Kosovo’s independence, despite maintaining dialogue and cooperation with Pristina through various international forums.
Kosovo’s Ongoing Diplomatic Efforts
Kosovo continues to pursue new recognitions across Asia, Africa, and Latin America, as part of its long-term diplomatic agenda to secure full international legitimacy and United Nations membership.
Jahjaga’s participation at the World Peace Forum represents another strategic effort to raise Kosovo’s visibility on the global stage and to reinforce its commitment to democracy, gender equality, and peacebuilding.
