The Mayor of Vushtrri, Ferit Idrizi, has described the incident that occurred on November 29th at the Ibër-Lepenc canal in Zubin Potok as a terrorist attack, which caused a disruption in the drinking water supply to Vushtrri and several other towns.

Although water supply has been restored, the mayor announced that the water is still not safe for drinking while awaiting the results of tests from the National Institute of Public Health of Kosovo (IKSHPK).

“It truly was a terrorist attack that directly impacted citizens by damaging the Ibër-Lepenc canal, causing a disruption in the drinking water supply to the city of Vushtrri, as well as to other towns such as Mitrovica and Skenderaj. We are still waiting for the latest information from the Regional Water Supply Company of Mitrovica. Although there is water available in households, the green light for drinking has not yet been given until the analyses are done by the National Institute of Public Health,” said Idrizi.

To address the situation, Idrizi emphasized that emergency measures have been taken to provide drinking water.

“We have ensured drinking water in cooperation with the Regional Water Supply Company of Mitrovica. We have placed a water tanker in Kala, and citizens are being served with drinking water there. I believe this situation will be overcome and that the drinking water supply will be restored,” he said for EO.

Idrizi reassured citizens that the water supply has been stabilized and that the immediate danger has been avoided.

“No, there is no danger at this time. The issue has been fixed, there is enough water, but we are still awaiting information from IKSHPK to determine whether we can begin using it for drinking,” said Idrizi.
