President Vjosa Osmani announced a meeting with Pope Leo XIV at the Holy See, describing the private audience as a “special honor.”

During the meeting, she invited the Pope to visit Kosovo.

“During our conversation, I once again conveyed my warmest wishes for the beginning of his pontificate, as well as the hope that his mission will bring light, courage, and support to people in need around the world. I also extended a heartfelt invitation for him to visit the Republic of Kosovo, which would be warmly welcomed by all our citizens,” Osmani wrote in a Facebook post.

The President stated that she discussed Kosovo’s role, the deepening of bilateral cooperation, and the request for the Holy See to recognize the country’s independence.

We also discussed deepening cooperation in areas directly affecting the welfare of our citizens, with the hope that the Holy See will soon make the long-awaited decision to formally recognize the Republic of Kosovo.”

Osmani added that “Kosovo remains committed to strengthening its relations with the Holy See and advancing our historical friendship, guided by the values that unite us.”
