Austrian Minister for European and International Affairs, Claudia Plakolm, stated that the future of the Western Balkans region lies in the European Union.
Plakolm emphasized that the EU’s enlargement, especially for the Western Balkans, must remain a top priority for the European Union.
“We owe it to our partners, some of whom have waited so long, to offer a clear and credible perspective,” she wrote.
This stance from the Austrian minister comes after she has had the opportunity to speak with government officials from countries in the region over the past two weeks, including Kosovo’s Deputy Prime Minister, Besnik Bislimi.
