An avalanche in the Lake Tahoe region has left 10 skiers missing and six others trapped, prompting an urgent rescue operation, authorities confirmed.
The avalanche was reported around 11:30 a.m. in the Castle Peak area near the city of Truckee, according to the Nevada County Sheriff’s Office, as reported by BBC.
The group involved in the incident consisted of four guides and 12 clients who were skiing in the area when the avalanche struck.
Authorities warned that weather conditions remain dangerous, with continued risks of additional avalanches, complicating rescue efforts. Emergency teams are currently working to locate the missing individuals and safely evacuate those trapped.
Rescue operations remain ongoing as officials monitor the unstable snow conditions and coordinate response teams across the mountainous terrain.
