The NGO network “Avonet” has raised concerns regarding the engagement of personal assistants for Kosovo Assembly members, deeming the practice unreasonable and contrary to the role of an MP in the parliamentary system.
Kenan Gashi from Avonet stated that MPs do not need personal assistants, as their role as elected representatives should focus on their work within parliamentary committees.
“Assembly MPs cannot have their own assistants because their role as MPs should function based on their work in parliamentary committees. Based on this, assistants are engaged to perform tasks related to the committees,” Gashi told FrontOnline.
He further emphasized that many current MPs are not fully exercising their functions, implying that the engagement of assistants is more symbolic than functional.
“MPs have not taken on their full role as MPs, because they are not playing their role. All those who have taken assistants do not belong to a good party and budget guardian,” he added.
