Olaf Scholz, Chancellor of Germany, is on a visit to Serbia, where he was received with high honors at Belgrade’s “Nikola Tesla” airport by Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić. These two countries, Germany (on behalf of the EU) and Serbia, have also signed a memorandum regarding “a strategic partnership for sustainable raw materials”.
This visit was also commented on in Kosovo.
In the line of pessimistic interpretations is also Robert Bosch, former ambassador of the Netherlands in Kosovo.
In a post on his Facebook profile, Bosch assessed that today is a bad day for “the environment, democracy and Kosovo”.
“Bad day for the environment, democracy and for Kosovo. The EU this time, also through the visit of the German chancellor, supports the Serbian government to let foreign investors destroy, against the will of the people, to start extracting lithium. Lithium is essential for batteries in E-cars, which is why Germany in particular, with its large car industry, is interested. Vucic will use this of course and the EU uses his autocratic regime to ignore the will of the people. I think that there is no talk about his policy for the destabilization of the region,” Bosch wrote.
