President Bajram Begaj of Albania was awarded the title of “Honorary Citizen” by the Municipality of Gjilan today. The ceremony took place at the Municipal Assembly, with the attendance of Mayor Alban Hyseni, Chairman of the Municipal Assembly Kushtrim Kadriu, and other local council members.

In his speech, President Begaj expressed his deep gratitude for the honor, emphasizing that it symbolizes the strong bond between Albanians across all territories. He praised Gjilan as a city rich in tradition, history, sacrifice, and resilience.

“This title belongs to all Albanians who stood beside you during the most difficult moments of Kosovo’s history, as an inseparable part of a common heritage,” said President Begaj.

He paid tribute to the historical figures of Gjilan, including Idriz Seferi, Kadri Zeka, Rexhep Mala, Nuhi Berisha, Agim Ramadani, and Rrahim Beqiri, highlighting their contributions to Kosovo’s freedom, which remain alive in the consciousness of younger generations.

Looking ahead, President Begaj reiterated that Albania has always been and will continue to stand by Kosovo, not only in times of difficulty but also in peace, on the shared path towards European integration.

“Peace requires wise minds, clear vision, and the courage to build a prosperous future for our people. Two states, one nation, one language, one blood—this is our DNA,” he declared.

President Begaj stressed the importance of concrete cooperation between Albanians in the fields of economy, education, diplomacy, and the creation of a common market. He described this as a historic opportunity that should translate into tangible development for citizens on both sides of the border.

During his visit to Gjilan, President Begaj held meetings with local leaders and political representatives in the Municipal Assembly. He also paid his respects at the Martyrs’ Cemetery, holding a moment of silence alongside families and representatives of freedom fighters’ associations.
