Hykmete Bajrami, a member of the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), emphasized that there are insufficient votes to form a government either by Vetëvendosje (LVV) or by the former opposition, reports Rks News.
“At the moment, there are not enough votes for a government either from the former opposition or from the current ruling party,” she said in an interview with Kanal10.
Bajrami noted that it is evident that Prime Minister Albin Kurti has failed to secure enough support to form a government.
“It is now evident that Kurti doesn’t have the votes. We need to speak very honestly with the citizens; even the former opposition doesn’t have the votes. We’ve counted, and there are not 61 votes,” Bajrami added.
To overcome the current deadlock, the office of Kosovo’s President, Vjosa Osmani, announced that it will soon contact political parties to arrange a meeting of party leaders to discuss possible solutions to the political crisis.
In a statement sent to the media, the media advisor to the President, Bekim Kupina, said, “Until yesterday, we hadn’t received such a request. Now that some parties have asked the President to call a joint leaders’ meeting, the President’s office will contact the political parties soon to determine a suitable time for such an inclusive meeting.”
Meanwhile, following the February 9th elections, Kosovo remains without new institutions, and the issue of electing the Speaker of the Assembly has led to a political block. The Vetëvendosje Movement has proposed Albulena Haxhiu for the position but has faced strong opposition from the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK), the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK), and the LDK.
