During the annual Security Forum in the U.S. Congress, American lawmakers, along with representatives from European and Western Balkan countries, emphasized the need for democratic solidarity against authoritarian regimes such as Russia, China, and Iran. The forum also focused on strengthening cooperation with President Donald Trump’s new administration amid global security challenges, reports VOA.

Congressional Support for the Balkans

Republican Congressman Pete Sessions, one of the event’s organizers, highlighted the strategic importance of the Western Balkans for U.S. interests.

“It is crucial for America’s friends to stand together. Members of Congress play a key role in signaling the region’s importance for European stability and U.S. interests,” Sessions stated.

He further noted that he and other lawmakers would convey this message to the new administration and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, stressing the risks posed by Russian and Chinese disinformation campaigns.

Kosovo’s Call for Stronger U.S. Leadership

Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani underscored the fragile security situation in the region and called for continued U.S. support, particularly in countering Russian, Chinese, and Iranian influence.

“Now that President Trump is back in the White House, it is vital that America demonstrates true leadership not only towards its allies but also in dealing with those who bring Russia, China, and Iran closer to our region,” Osmani stated, referring to Serbia’s geopolitical alignment.

Concerns Over Serbia’s Foreign Policy

Balkan analyst Edward Joseph warned against Serbia’s deepening ties with Russia and China, urging President Trump to distinguish between genuine allies and deceptive partners.

“Do not be fooled by those who claim admiration while strengthening relations with China and advancing Russian and Serbian agendas behind America’s back,” Joseph cautioned.

Additionally, he criticized Kosovo’s Prime Minister Albin Kurti for not fostering open and reliable relations with the U.S., emphasizing his responsibility to ensure Kosovo Serbs feel fully integrated into the country.

Serbia and Albania Express Readiness for Cooperation

Vladimir Marinković, Serbia’s former parliamentary speaker, dismissed accusations against Belgrade and affirmed Serbia’s willingness to collaborate with the Trump administration.

Meanwhile, Albanian MP Damian Gjiknuri reaffirmed Albania’s commitment to strengthening democracy and NATO’s role in ensuring regional stability.

“A strong America, as President Trump says, ‘America First,’ will lead to a stronger alliance. Albania, as a NATO member, will play its part in maintaining peace and security,” Gjiknuri stated.

Strengthening Western Alliances

In light of increasing global security challenges, forum participants stressed the importance of closer coordination among democratic nations and the reinforcement of key Western alliances to counter authoritarian threats.
