Prishtina, July 22, 2025 — Proceedings in the high-profile “Banjska” case resumed today at the Basic Court in Prishtina, where three individuals—Blagoje Spasojević, Vladimir Tolić, and Dušan Maksimović—stand accused of involvement in the September 2023 armed attack in the village of Banjska, in northern Kosovo.

The hearing follows a closed session held yesterday, during which the court heard testimony from a protected, anonymous witness. The session was closed to the public at the request of state prosecutor Naim Abazi, who cited concerns over the witness’s safety and the integrity of the legal process.

“The witness in question benefits from protective measures, and any exposure of their identity could pose a serious risk and potentially influence the course of justice,” Abazi stated during the hearing.

The trial is part of a broader investigation into the events of September 24, 2023, when heavily armed Serb militants launched an attack in Banjska, resulting in the death of a Kosovo police officer. The incident marked one of the most serious escalations of violence in the north in recent years.

In addition to today’s session, the court has scheduled another hearing for July 24, as the prosecution continues to present its case.

The Banjska case is being closely monitored both domestically and internationally, given its implications for regional stability and the rule of law in Kosovo.
