Kosovo’s Special Department of the Basic Court in Prishtina will hold a court session on June 9 at 09:30 in the high-profile “Banjska” terrorism case, which involves a deadly armed assault in the north of the country.
The accused – Blagoje Spasojević (B.S.), Vladimir Tolić (V.T.), and Dušan Maksimović (D.M.) – are facing charges of committing terrorist acts and serious crimes against the constitutional order and security of the Republic of Kosovo, based on an indictment filed by the Special Prosecution of Kosovo (SPRK).
Background: The 2023 Banjska Attack
The case stems from the September 24, 2023 terrorist attack in Banjska, Zvečan, where an armed Serb paramilitary group ambushed Kosovo police officers. The attack resulted in the death of officer Afrim Bunjaku and posed a serious threat to other officers and civilians.
The main accused, Milan Radoičić, along with 44 others, was indicted on September 11, 2024, for attempting to detach Kosovo’s northern territory through violent means and annex it to Serbia.
According to the indictment, Radoičić led the group from 2017 to 2023, using illegally obtained funds to purchase properties—some of which were transferred to third parties to conceal their origin, leading to additional charges of money laundering.
International Arrest Warrants Issued
Out of the 45 individuals indicted, 42 remain at large. The Prishtina Basic Court has issued international arrest warrants in hopes of securing their extradition for trial.
“The warrants aim to ensure the presence of these defendants during legal proceedings,” the court stated, emphasizing the seriousness of the allegations, which also include facilitating and financing terrorism.
Current Status of the Accused
The three detained defendants – Spasojević, Tolić, and Maksimović – remain in pretrial detention and have pleaded not guilty to the charges.
