The lawyer representing the family of slain police officer Afrim Bunjaku, who was killed in the terrorist attack in Banjskë, has stated that the family will seek life imprisonment for the accused.

Speaking on the Dukagjin program “FIVE”, lawyer Arianit Koci criticized the defense for attempting to downplay the severity of the terrorist attack.

“The procedure needs to restart from the very beginning. It is very unfortunate that this happened to us. The previous presiding judge escalated the matter one level higher, but I welcome the positive disposition of the current presiding judge, who accepted to lead the panel to maintain the momentum of the trial,” Koci said.

He emphasized that while the family wants the trial to conclude as soon as possible, they will not allow the accused to exploit procedural delays to claim their rights were violated.

Koci also noted that during Friday’s hearing, the defense attempted to introduce nine new witnesses to create an alibi for one of the accused, claiming he was not present at the scene of the attack.

“The accused, who has been charged with committing the terrorist attack alongside his accomplices, is trying to establish an alibi. However, the indictment is very clear—each accused is implicated by multiple pieces of evidence, including drone footage that clearly shows the events,” Koci said.

He concluded that the Bunjaku family insists on a swift conclusion to the trial and that there is sufficient evidence to justify life sentences for the perpetrators.
