Damage to several bank branches operating in Tirana does not pose a threat to citizens’ savings, the Bank of Albania has assured the public.

The central bank said temporary restrictions on services at certain branches were introduced to protect the physical safety of employees and customers, ABC News Albania reported.

“The Bank of Albania emphasises that citizens’ deposits and savings within the banking system are safe. Damage to physical infrastructure at some bank branches does not compromise the security of customers’ deposits or the financial stability of the banks. Citizens should remain calm, as their savings are protected and are not at risk from physical damage to bank premises,” the statement said.

According to the Bank of Albania, payment services have continued to operate normally, without disrupting economic activity.

“The Bank of Albania assures the public that payment services have continued to function normally and without interruption, ensuring that the banking system continues to fulfil its essential role in supporting businesses’ economic activities and meeting households’ consumption needs,” the statement added.

The Bank of Albania also called on citizens to exercise their right to peaceful protest while respecting and protecting the security of the central bank and other banking institutions.
