The head of EULEX, Giovanni Pietro Barbano, recently spoke in an interview about Kosovo’s dialogue with Serbia, the security of all communities in Kosovo, and the elections held on February 9th in the country, reports Sinjali.

Barbano stated that the parliamentary elections of February 9th in Kosovo were peaceful, and the EU is eager for the institutions to be formed as soon as possible.

“Yes, they were, and I highly welcome the fact that the parliamentary elections of February 9th took place in a peaceful atmosphere without any major security incidents. As stated by the High Representative/Vice-President Kallas and the Commissioner for Enlargement Kos, the overall process showed stability and commitment to democratic principles. The European Union eagerly awaits the formation of new institutions and the continuation of our engagement with the authorities, focusing on supporting the strengthening of rule of law institutions, in line with the existing legal framework, without discrimination,” he said.

He also emphasized that the EU is the only credible and sustainable framework for advancing normalization.

“The EU-facilitated Kosovo-Serbia dialogue remains the only credible and sustainable framework for advancing normalization. The assessment of its implementation falls under the competence of the EU Special Representative for the Pristina-Belgrade Dialogue,” he emphasized to the media outlet Le Canton27.ch.
