Speaker of the Kosovo Assembly, Dimal Basha, clarified today why the vote for deputy speakers from minority communities was not conducted in a single package, stating that there was no consensus among non-Serb minority representatives.

According to Basha, while the three largest parties — Vetëvendosje (VV), the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK), and the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) — had agreed to proceed with a joint vote, the non-Serb minority communities opposed being grouped together with the Serb community.

“As you know, the Assembly’s Rules of Procedure state the election of deputy speakers. During the session, I explained that the three major parties — VV, LDK, and PDK — had reached consensus to proceed with a package vote. However, the non-Serb minority communities came out and declared they did not want to be voted together with the Serb community, insisting instead on being voted separately. At that moment, I announced that since there was no consensus, I proposed that they be voted individually,” Basha explained during a press conference.

He added that this approach was then followed, leading to the vote of Emilija Rexhepi, who secured enough support to be elected Deputy Speaker of the Assembly — a process in which even the Serb List participated.
