The meeting of the Assembly Presidency failed due to a lack of quorum. Following the session, Assembly Chairman Dimal Basha stated that one reason he declared the Assembly as constituted was pressure from international partners.
“It makes no sense to block the Assembly of the Republic over the non-election of a deputy chair. We have five members in the Presidency. The process must continue for appointing the mandate holder and ensuring functional institutions, as citizens expect. We also face pressure and requests from international friends to keep the Assembly’s work moving forward,” Basha said.
