On the 35th anniversary of the Kaçanik Constitution, the Speaker of the Assembly of Kosovo, Dimal Basha, paid tribute to the delegates and citizens who made this historic act possible, calling it a cornerstone in Kosovo’s path to independence.

In a Facebook post, Basha emphasized the enduring importance of the September 7, 1990 Constitution, describing it as a milestone that paved the way toward Kosovo’s sovereignty.

“Today, with honor and respect, we remember the professors, delegates, and citizens of Kaçanik who made this historic act possible. The Kaçanik Constitution remains a living testament of our unity, commitment, and determination for freedom, equality, and an independent and sovereign state. It reminds us that independence was achieved through sacrifice, and its protection is our everlasting responsibility,” Basha wrote.

He further recalled that the document gave direction to the slogans of demonstrations, was followed by the struggle of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA), and was ultimately crowned with the Declaration of Independence in 2008.
