Speaker of the Assembly, Dimal Basha, has visited the Memorial Complex in Prekaz, just days after facing accusations over a text that listed him as a co-author. The publication claimed, among other things, that the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) was financed by drug traffickers.

Basha Addresses the Controversy

Basha has denied writing the section about the KLA, clarifying that he was only responsible for the chapter on Islamic fundamentalism. He admitted to being “careless” and unaware of the full text until it was published after he became Speaker. He apologized for his lack of attention and stated he has requested that his name and the chapter he wrote be removed from the publication.

Homage in Prekaz

Following the controversy, Basha visited the memorial, fulfilling a promise he made during a press conference. On Facebook, he wrote that he and Deputy Speaker Albulena Haxhiu began the day with a deep tribute to “the heroism of Commander Adem Jashari and 58 members of his family,” calling their sacrifice the foundation of Kosovo’s liberation and independence. He also announced that he would visit the grave of former President Ibrahim Rugova and other memorials.
