The military parade in Belgrade is a clear message to Serbia’s neighbors, assessed American analyst Kurt Bassuener from the Democratization Policy Council in Berlin, who views the event as an open signal to neighboring countries regarding Serbia’s new military arsenal.
“But this is also – perhaps above all – an obvious attempt to establish internal control in Serbia, control that is increasingly slipping out of Vučić’s hands, at least in terms of public opinion,” Bassuener told Radio Free Europe.
According to him, the fact that Vučić is “losing control” domestically is also influencing his foreign policy, pushing him toward geopolitical arbitrage.
