If Kosovo heads to extraordinary elections, the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) is expected to once again nominate Bedri Hamza as its candidate for Prime Minister.

This was confirmed by PDK leader Memli Krasniqi.

“I believe so. As I’ve said since the day I nominated him — and it’s been more than a year since then — he (Bedri Hamza) remains the most suitable person for the phase ahead,” stated Krasniqi.

According to him, the situation in Kosovo has deteriorated — both economically and in terms of citizens’ well-being and the country’s international relations.

“The political program we ran on, led by Hamza, remains relevant even today — perhaps more than ever. It foresees salary and pension increases, lower energy costs, economic liberalization, and easier conditions for businesses and the private sector,” Krasniqi said.

The PDK chairman also clarified that his party will not attempt to form a government under the current parliamentary circumstances.

According to Krasniqi, the only path forward is new elections, as no party holds a majority.

He added that President Vjosa Osmani should already be inviting parties to consultations.

“Formally speaking, the President should start contacting us now. I assume each of us would tell her that we don’t have a majority, so she should take the next steps… No, we can’t take the mandate. You need 61 votes,” Krasniqi said.

He emphasized there’s no need to wait the full 10-day constitutional period to avoid further delays.

“There’s no reason to wait 10 days,” he told Klan Kosova.

Regarding the Assembly, Krasniqi noted that if no majority is formed in the second attempt, it will be automatically dissolved.

“The dissolution of the Assembly happens automatically if, in the second round, the potential parties again declare they don’t have a majority,” Krasniqi explained.
