The 113th Anniversary of Independence brought together Albanian and Kosovar politicians, members of the diplomatic corps accredited in Tirana, leaders of the justice system, and representatives from media and culture at the official reception held at the Palace of Brigades, organized by the Head of State, President Bajram Begaj.

Among the guests was also the President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani. President Begaj opened the event with a message of unity and strengthening the Albanian factor in the Balkans.

“This flag knows no division, no narrow interests, no borders between us. It recognizes only unity and our responsibility to advance the state we inherited from our forefathers. Our fates were divided against our will; today, the fate of Albania, Kosovo, and all Albanians in the region is in our hands. It is time to be united, to support the development of Albanian communities, and to ensure that every Albanian, at home and abroad, feels part of a nation that is moving forward.”

In his speech, the Head of State emphasized that in 113 years of independence, Albania has built a serious reputation on the international stage, highlighting the importance of European Union integration.

“Today, 113 years later, we are again near another historic goal: full membership in the European family. Never before have we been this close. We do not ask the European family for a place; we aim to take the place that belongs to us. Membership requires strong institutions, a trustworthy justice system, a competitive and sustainable economy, quality education and healthcare, and a professional public administration. Integration is a test we must pass only together as a state and as a society.”

President Begaj also acknowledged all Albanians who celebrate Independence outside the homeland, across the globe.

“The Albanian diaspora, spread across every continent, is a powerful bridge to the world; it is our heart beating far away; it is an extraordinary source of expertise, investment, and cultural diplomacy. Our duty as a state is to listen to them, involve them, and create real spaces for their participation.”

Finally, the Albanian Head of State recalled ongoing conflicts worldwide, emphasizing Albania’s contributions to peace, security, and dialogue as a NATO ally, and reaffirmed that the country remains a strong partner of both the European Union and the United States.
