Deputy from the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK), Bekë Berisha, has revealed that he was ready to vote for Albulena Haxhiu as Speaker of the Assembly, recognizing the right of the first-ranking party to nominate a candidate under the Constitution.

“I came out in the third session and said: these people voted for Albin Kurti, and constitutionally, the first party proposes Albulena Haxhiu — let’s vote for her so Albin can move forward,” Berisha said during an interview on T7.

Berisha stressed that he saw no difference between members of VV and would have supported any candidate from the party, even suggesting alternative names like Shqipe, Saranda, or Glauk.

However, his position shifted when the voting method was changed to a secret ballot.

“When they changed the voting method to secret, everything changed. I don’t vote in secret,” he said. “I told them, all of them are the same. Why should I oppose Albulena at all costs? If they hadn’t changed the method of voting, they would have gone through 30 more sessions. I told them, even if it’s Albin Kurti, I’ll vote for him — but I’ll do it openly.”

Berisha’s comments highlight the growing frustration with the ongoing institutional stalemate, which has persisted since the February 9 elections, with no Speaker of the Assembly elected after multiple failed attempts.
