The former mayor of Skenderaj, Bekim Jashari, reacted following the decision of the OVL KLA (Veterans Organization of the Kosovo Liberation Army) not to cooperate with the current institutions of the Government of Kosovo for the celebration of the 17th anniversary of Kosovo’s independence and the 27th anniversary of the KLA epic of the Jashari family on March 5, 6, and 7.
In a post on Facebook, Jashari stated that we have thousands of reasons to celebrate freedom and independence, earned through blood and sacrifice, while the boycott of these moments does not change the course of history but speaks volumes about those who choose to do so.
Furthermore, he added that Kosovo is the merit of all and that, instead of boycotting, gratitude and respect should unite everyone.
He also recalled a quote from Rifat Jashari: “I lost 56 members of my family, but I gained the hearts of millions of Albanians.”
In the end, he stated that nothing can diminish the greatness of the February 17th celebration.
