Belarus and the United States are reportedly discussing the possibility of a complete normalization of relations, according to Valentin Rybakov, Belarus’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations.

“Of course, first and foremost, questions of the final normalization of bilateral relations are being considered – full normalization with the complete resumption of embassy operations in both countries, an exchange of visits, and so on,” Rybakov stated, as reported by Tanjug, citing Beltra.

Rybakov participated in a meeting in Minsk on Saturday between Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenka and U.S. President Donald Trump’s Special Envoy for Ukraine, Keith Kellogg.

Sanctions a Key Priority for Belarus

Rybakov added that one of the priority issues for Belarus, and a recurring topic of discussion, is sanctions.

“We constantly emphasize this – sanctions that are absolutely illegal. Sanctions are unilateral, adopted in violation of all norms of international law. This issue is being considered, and we are trying to find some solutions,” Rybakov said.

The U.S. and its allies, including the European Union, imposed sanctions against dozens of individuals and entities in Belarus in 2021. These measures aimed to increase pressure on Lukashenka, who was accused of allegedly rigging the presidential elections to stay in power and ordering a mass crackdown on opposition representatives.
