Belgian prosecutors have announced that several individuals have been arrested for questioning, suspected of being involved in active corruption within the European Parliament. These arrests are part of a broader investigation aimed at uncovering illegal activities within EU institutions.

According to Belgian prosecutors, the Federal Police carried out 21 searches across the Brussels region, as well as in Flanders, Wallonia, and Portugal, in an effort to secure necessary evidence.

So far, the names and roles of those involved have not been disclosed, and prosecutors have been unavailable for further comment on the case.

The investigation has revealed allegations of corruption, forgery, and the use of false documents, believed to have been ongoing and “highly discreet” since 2021. According to prosecutors, these activities took place under the guise of commercial lobbying and took various forms, including bribery for political positions and excessive gifts, such as food, travel expenses, and regular invitations to football matches.

As part of the investigation, a range of documents and objects have been seized, potentially offering evidence related to money laundering, highlighting efforts to uncover and halt illegal activities at this high political level.
