A court in Belgrade has ordered 30 days of pre-trial detention for Avni Qenaj, a former member of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) and a citizen of Kosovo.
The decision comes only days after the release of Arbnor Spahiu, a former officer of Kosovo’s Special Unit who was arrested earlier this year at the Hungary–Serbia border. Qenaj, from the village of Romajë in Prizren, was similarly detained by Serbian authorities due to his links to the KLA.
The arrest has been confirmed by the Kosovo Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Organization of KLA War Veterans (OVL-UÇK).
In a statement, the Ministry said that all necessary measures are being taken to protect the rights and safety of Avni Qenaj.
This latest detention further highlights Belgrade’s ongoing campaign of politically motivated arrests targeting former KLA members, a practice widely criticized as an attempt to intimidate Kosovo citizens and rewrite the narrative of Serbia’s past crimes in the region.
