A student protest has begun in front of the Radio-Television of Serbia (RTS) building in central Belgrade. The protesters are calling on the public service broadcaster to allow them “live on air,” and are demanding that the management and journalists come outside, reports Vijesti.

The protest, which is taking place on Takovska Street under the slogan “Our right to know everything,” has drawn thousands of students and citizens, many carrying student and Serbian flags. The protesters are holding signs that read “Build prisons, not everyone can fit,” “It’s not Serbian to remain silent,” and “There are people and non-people. Students are people, and you?”

The entire Takovska Street is filled with students and citizens, making a lot of noise by blowing whistles and vuvuzelas. At the front of the student column, a large banner reads “Your right to know everything?”

So far, there is no visible police presence on the streets, but student security is evident. The area in front of RTS has been closed to traffic, with a sound truck present as the protesters continue to make noise with their whistles and vuvuzelas.

Students are expressing their dissatisfaction with the public broadcaster, which is funded by all citizens, by chanting and waving banners that demand accountability for the November 1st tragedy in Novi Sad, where 15 people died, and two were seriously injured.

The protestors have come from various directions, depending on where their universities are located, and are chanting “We want to be on air” and “Let us live.” Traffic was also halted on King Alexander Boulevard as students and citizens marched to RTS, according to Beta Agency reporters.
