The leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, has responded to complaints from four losing candidates in the Tirana elections, who requested an independent vote recount through the Complaints and Sanctions Commission (KAS), bypassing the party’s structures. Berisha stated that this was the wrong path and described their actions as a “misunderstanding,” Rks News reports.
“Much ado about nothing. The Tirana candidates were informed again yesterday that the path they took is illegal. Our representatives in KAS followed the law. They couldn’t vote for an act that has been repealed by law,” Berisha said during a press conference.
According to him, the candidates Arlind Alimehmeti, Enkelejd Hajdarmataj, Ervin Hoxha, and Edvin Kucana did not follow the proper procedure, bypassing the Democratic Party’s legal representatives. He invited them to submit their complaints through the party’s representatives at the Central Election Commission (CEC) for further review.
Meanwhile, Berisha also commented on the post-election situation, referencing a resolution by the International Democrat Union which, according to him, denounces pressure on the media and the politically motivated ban of TikTok.
“The ruling party’s control over the media, editorial censorship, and the politically motivated ban of the TikTok platform severely harmed voters’ ability to access balanced and diverse information,” he said.
