Veton Berisha, a Member of Parliament from the Liberal Egyptian Party, has stated his party’s readiness to support the formation of new Kosovo institutions, but with the condition that the Egyptian community is genuinely included with representation and responsibilities. He further declared his willingness to take on the leadership of any ministry offered to him.
“We represent a community that has been marginalized for many years. We have requested to be an active part of the institutions and to have guarantees that a concrete program for improving the situation of our community will be implemented,” Berisha said on KTV’s “60 Minutes.”
Berisha also discussed initial meetings with the acting Prime Minister, Albin Kurti, and the 11-point program he presented, which includes investments in education, infrastructure, employment, and the inclusion of Egyptians in institutions. However, he noted that more than a month has passed since these meetings without further developments.
“We are not asking for favors, but for real responsibility to implement a program that would directly impact the stabilization of the life of the Egyptian community in Kosovo,” he added.
Berisha stated that he will not vote for the formation of the commission for secret voting for the election of the Speaker of Parliament because his name was included in the commission without his consent. According to him, changing the voting method at this stage is unacceptable. Berisha mentioned that when the voting was open, he always voted in favor of Albulena Haxhiu.
The Kosovo Assembly has already failed to convene 15 times due to a lack of political consensus. The candidate proposed by the Vetëvendosje Movement for Speaker of Parliament, Albulena Haxhiu, has not yet received the necessary support. The 16th attempt to vote is scheduled for tomorrow, May 15, at 10:30 AM.
