Leaders of the Western Balkans and representatives of several Western countries will gather today in the German capital.

This will be done at the invitation of German Chancellor Olaf Scolz to discuss the next objectives within the Berlin Process.

This process has been organized since 2014, at the initiative of the then German Chancellor, Angela Merkel, after a pause imposed by European Union officials in the process of enlargement of the European bloc.

The Berlin Process does not have a fixed structure, i.e. it does not have a central coordination mechanism, and it is held in different places, and there is no punitive mechanism either.

Over the years, meetings have been held in Tirana, London, Paris, Vienna or Poznan.

The unblocking of CEFTA averted the possible departure of Kosovo from the Berlin Process, the only European platform where Kosovo is presented completely equal to all other participants.

Kosovo’s participation in the Berlin Process has provided a platform for dialogue and cooperation with other Western Balkan countries, including those that do not recognize its independence.
