Serbian Parliament Speaker Ana Bërnabić has declared that “the situation in Kosovo is extremely grave because Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti wants to provoke war.”
Bërnabić told “Euronews Serbia” that “it is in Serbia’s interest to maintain peace, but it should also not allow mistreatment and endangerment of its people in Kosovo.” She said, “The situation seems to be the worst yet, because Albin Kurti has no other solution or exit for his policies except to provoke an armed conflict, that is, a war with Belgrade. And in this sense, it seems more serious than ever, hence he is more arrogant and reckless than before, because he is completely cornered, and this is his only way out. If you look at last week, I think Manuel Sarrazin, Germany’s special envoy for the Western Balkans, said that maybe CEFTA is possible without the ‘so-called’ Kosovo, it is actually astonishing to hear something like this from Mr. Sarrazin, who is one of the greatest advocates of the ‘so-called’ independence of Kosovo, but also one of the biggest supporters of Albin Kurti. This is where things have come, everyone is very clear about what Albin Kurti is doing,” Bërnabić said.
She added that actions by Pristina—such as the indictment of 45 individuals for the incident in Banjskë, the arrest and beating of Serbian youths, and the blocking of Serbian institutions—are “playing with fire that could ignite” northern Kosovo, Paparaci reports.
“This mistreatment of young people just because they are Serbs, the confiscation of property, lack of legal security, the life of Serbs in Kosovo where they have not received salaries for over a year, and cannot buy goods from Serbia. All of this absolutely leads to what Aleksandar Vučić also spoke about at the United Nations Security Council, which is the deliberate creation of impossible living conditions for Serbs in Kosovo, where Albin Kurti is deliberately causing ethnic cleansing, and this is now clear to everyone. At this moment, he exclusively and solely wants to provoke war,” Bërnabić said.
She also commented on Lajčak’s statement that Belgrade withdrew Bërnabić’s letter to the European Union outlining the “red lines” regarding certain provisions of the Ohrid Agreement.
“None of us intentionally responded or provided information to see how far they will go with this and what they will do with this information. And then we will give our explanation.”
Ana Bërnabić said, “I do not know why Lajčak made such a statement.”
“I have not spoken to him, but I know what the truth is, and we will hear it when the time is right for our country and interests,” Bërnabić said, adding that “now is not the right time.”
