U.S. President Joe Biden declared that the United States will not tolerate any attacks on its communities, following a deadly attack in New Orleans, Louisiana, in which at least ten people were killed.
In a written statement, Biden expressed his condolences and confirmed that the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is treating the incident as a terrorist act. He was briefed about the attack in the early morning hours and emphasized the government’s commitment to addressing the situation.
“Violence can never be justified. We will not tolerate any attack on our country’s communities,” Biden said. He also extended his gratitude to local law enforcement for preventing further casualties and injuries. Biden stated that he would continue to receive updates throughout the day regarding the incident.
The attack occurred early in the morning around 3:15 AM at the intersection of Canal and Bourbon Streets in the historic French Quarter, a popular area for tourists and a central location for major holiday celebrations. The suspect allegedly drove a vehicle into a crowd celebrating New Year’s Eve, killing at least ten people and injuring thirty more. Local authorities confirmed that the suspect is deceased.
Biden’s remarks come as part of an ongoing investigation into the horrific incident.
