After a sobering trip to Kiev, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken called on President Biden to lift restrictions on how Ukraine can use US weapons.
Blinken demands that America allow the Ukrainians to fire their missiles deep into Russian territory.
Since the first shipment of modern weapons from the US to Ukraine, President Joe Biden has always adhered to the ban on these weapons being used to attack Russia.
Ukrainian President Zelensky had to agree never to fire weapons into Russian territory, as this would threaten Biden’s position and open the possibility of “the outbreak of World War III.”
But the consensus about that American policy seems to be collapsing, writes the “New York Times”.
Fueled by the State Department’s views, there is now a vigorous debate in the Washington administration about easing the ban to allow Ukrainians to target missile and artillery launch sites just over the border in Russia.
