A boat carrying several people capsized in the early hours of October 6 near Bačka Palanka, in northwestern Serbia.

According to unofficial reports cited by RFE/RL’s Balkan Service, 10 Chinese citizens and one Serbian national were on board.

Rescue teams are continuing to search for several missing persons, while medical emergency units, police, and firefighters remain at the scene. Specialized water rescue units from both Serbia and Croatia have also been dispatched to assist in the operation.

The Serbian Ministry of Interior has not yet issued an official statement regarding the incident.

Since 2017, Serbia and China have maintained a visa-free regime, allowing citizens of both countries to stay or transit through each other’s territory for up to 30 days after entry.
