The EU’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs, Josep Borrell, announced via EEAS that the chief negotiators have agreed to meet next week in Brussels to unblock the implementation of the dialogue. He added that the previous dialogue had not brought progress, and the discussions were more difficult than ever before.
“Unfortunately, this week’s Dialogue meeting did not bring any progress in implementation. The discussions were as tough as ever, and in the end, there was no face-to-face meeting between the President and the Prime Minister. Serbia was willing to meet, but Kosovo asked me to pass a series of preconditions. Currently, the positions of the two parties remain very far apart. However, the work will continue: the Chief Negotiators of the Parties agreed to come to Brussels next week to work out concrete steps to unblock the implementation of the Agreement.”
He stated that the process could move forward only if both parties expressed readiness.
“In summary, we have achieved a lot over the past years, but the process can only progress as quickly as both parties are ready to move. The EU facilitation cannot achieve more normalization than Kosovo and Serbia desire. After a few months, different people will be in charge of this dossier in Brussels, but the expectations of the European Union and its member states will not change. The commitments and obligations of Kosovo and Serbia will not go away.”
“Everyone will still be watching the readiness of the Serbian President and the Prime Minister of Kosovo to offer a better European future for their people. In the end, it takes courage, vision, and political will. The EU will continue to assist at every step along the way.”
