In a notable diplomatic gesture, the Movement of Mothers of Srebrenica and Žepa Enclaves, alongside the Association of Victims and Witnesses of Genocide, have sent a letter of gratitude to Kosovo’s President Vjosa Osmani, explicitly referring to Kosovo as a “Republic.” This comes despite Bosnia and Herzegovina’s official non-recognition of Kosovo as an independent state.

The associations thanked President Osmani for awarding the Presidential Medal to the Mothers of Srebrenica on June 2. Osmani had stated that the courage of the Srebrenica mothers, facing unimaginable pain from losing loved ones, serves as an inspiration for generations.

The letter, signed by the presidents of both associations, Murat Tahirović and Munira Subašić, reads: “Dear President, your warm words, when bestowing this recognition, represent for us a great honor and respect for you personally and your colleagues. We wish you much success and invite you to be our guest on July 11, at the commemoration of the 30th anniversary of the genocide in Srebrenica.”

Earlier this week, Bosnia’s Foreign Minister, Elmedin Konaković, also visited Kosovo at President Osmani’s invitation to participate in the International Forum for Women, Peace, and Security, further underscoring recent engagements between the two.
