The Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina has filed charges against Dragan Jevtić, Slavko Bogićević, and Damjan Lazarević from Zvornik for their involvement in the genocide in Srebrenica in July 1995.

The indictment alleges that during the widespread and systematic attack by the Army of the Republika Srpska (VRS) and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Republika Srpska in the UN-protected area of Srebrenica, the accused knowingly assisted in committing genocide against Bosniak victims following the fall of the protected zone.

According to the Prosecutor’s Office, the accused, in their roles as commanders of the Engineering Platoon within the Zvornik Brigade of the VRS, participated in preparing execution sites and providing machinery and personnel to bury the bodies of victims, including at:

  • Orahovac – at least 860 victims
  • Petkovci (Dam) – at least 815 victims
  • Kozluk (Gravel Pit) – at least 844 victims
  • Pilica (Branjevo) – at least 1,752 victims

They are also accused of removing bodies from primary sites and relocating them to secondary graves in the Zvornik area, with the aim of concealing the crime and hindering the recovery of remains. Between September and October 1995, they allegedly organized and participated in the removal of bodies to at least 24 secondary graves.

The Srebrenica genocide claimed the lives of over 8,000 Bosniaks in July 1995. The International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) has convicted 16 individuals, including seven for genocide, with remains recovered from more than 80 mass graves across Srebrenica, Bratunac, and Zvornik.

To date, more than 50 individuals have been convicted for Srebrenica-related crimes, serving a combined total of over 700 years in prison, including former RS President Radovan Karadžić and General Ratko Mladić, both serving life sentences in The Hague.
