A tragic collision between a bus and a truck on a highway in Minas Gerais, a state in southeastern Brazil, has resulted in the death of 30 people, according to local authorities.
The local fire department responded immediately to the scene, reporting that 13 more individuals have been hospitalized with injuries. The bus, which was traveling from São Paulo, was carrying 45 passengers at the time of the crash.
Witnesses stated that the bus’s tire burst, causing the driver to lose control and collide with the truck. A car with three passengers also struck the scene, but fortunately, all passengers in the car survived.
Authorities confirmed that all bodies have been removed from the site, and an investigation will determine the cause of the crash.
Governor Romeu Zema took to social media, announcing a “full mobilization” of the Minas Gerais state government to assist the victims. “We are working to provide support to the families of the victims in the most humane way possible, especially as this tragedy occurred just before Christmas,” Zema said.
In 2024, over 10,000 people have lost their lives in traffic accidents across Brazil, according to the Ministry of Transport.
