On the morning of December 6, explosions were heard in the city of Kerch in Crimea, and the bridge connecting the peninsula, which is occupied by Moscow, to Russia was closed to traffic, local Telegram channels reported.
According to the channel Krymskiy Veter, the explosions were heard in the area of the naval dockyard, Zaliv.
The first explosions were reported at 7:00 AM local time, witnesses told Radio Free Europe.
The Russian Ministry of Defense said the Kerch region is the target of airstrikes and drone attacks being carried out by Ukraine.
The ministry stated that Russian forces had shot down one drone and sunk two maritime drones. Ukraine has not commented on these Russian claims.
Attacks on Crimea occur frequently, especially near the bridge.
A powerful explosion in October 2022 hit the bridge, causing the collapse of a segment of the roadway and sparking a fire on part of the bridge, reports RFE. According to Russian data, three people died in that incident.
Russia illegally annexed the Ukrainian peninsula of Crimea in 2014, and in February 2022, launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
