The British Ambassador to Kosovo, Jonathan Hargreaves, has stated that the coming weeks will be extremely important for the country’s political and institutional stability, expressing hope that political parties will achieve better cooperation than last year.
He stressed the importance of electing a new President in a timely manner so that Kosovo has all the necessary governing institutions fully in place.
“I hope the parties are able to work together to ensure that a new president is elected on time and that we have functional institutions,” Hargreaves said in an interview with Politiko.
According to the British ambassador, these are decisive weeks to bring political actors together and avoid the possibility of new elections, which he believes would bring additional uncertainty.
“It would be better for Kosovo to move forward and have a decisive government for the months and years ahead. However, this depends on the will of the Assembly,” he said, adding that the decision lies with Members of Parliament and that it remains to be seen which path they will choose.
Ambassador Hargreaves emphasized that the United Kingdom awaits upcoming developments and hopes for a solution that guarantees stability and the normal functioning of Kosovo’s institutions.
