The British Ambassador to Kosovo, Jonathan Hargreaves, stated that the journey of Kosovo towards NATO membership heavily relies on the normalization of relations with Serbia.
According to him, Kosovo’s path to NATO will not happen until all NATO members are ready and satisfied with what Kosovo has achieved.
“We have already worked closely together on many security aspects, which would make this journey more feasible. We are pleased to have collaborated and coordinated with Kosovo on issues such as support for Ukraine. Realistically, the journey to NATO depends significantly on dialogue, and this will not happen until all NATO members are ready and satisfied with what Kosovo has accomplished,” said Hargreaves on Rubikon.
Hargreaves further mentioned that in addition to dialogue, there are other actions Kosovo can take to demonstrate its readiness for a long-term and ongoing relationship with NATO.
“The Kosovo Security Force (KSF) needs to provide security for people within the country, but also demonstrate Kosovo’s broader role in Europe and as part of the European security architecture. I previously mentioned how focused our new government is on security cooperation, and our security collaboration with Kosovo is part of our relationship,” Hargreaves added.
