The UK Ambassador to Kosovo, Jonathan Hargreaves, has stated that while the security situation in Kosovo appears calm on the surface, it remains fragile, requiring careful attention.
Ambassador Hargreaves emphasized the importance of Kosovo ensuring not only calm but also deeper stability.
“I think that, for now, externally it looks calm, and I hope it continues that way. But there is a fragility we must be very aware of. Incidents like Banjska show there is always a vulnerability—especially when communities distrust each other, or when there are attempts to undermine institutions. So overall, it is calm, but fragile. Let’s work together to manage this fragility and move it toward greater stability for everyone, which I believe is in everyone’s interest,” he said.
He added that the UK maintains troops in Kosovo as part of KFOR, currently numbering 350 troops in the strategic reserve. The ambassador stressed that the situation affects both Kosovo and the UK and called for continued efforts to strengthen stability.
Recently, Gazmend Hoxha, Director General of the Kosovo Police, reported incidents of drone flights in northern Kosovo, suspected to originate from Serbian territory. Police are in constant contact with KFOR and are monitoring the situation closely.
Regarding these incidents, Ambassador Hargreaves said he does not have specific details but expressed confidence in the ongoing cooperation between KFOR and the Kosovo Police.
“No, I don’t know the details on this matter. I am confident that Director Hoxha and KFOR will continue their excellent communication to understand exactly what is happening and what actions need to be taken,” he stated.
