The British Ambassador to Kosovo, Jonathan Hargreaves, today hosted the President of the Kosovo Specialist Chambers in The Hague, Ekaterina Trendafilova, at the British Embassy in Prishtina.
In a Facebook post, Ambassador Hargreaves emphasized the importance of the meeting and the crucial role of the Specialist Chambers in ensuring justice and revealing the truth for all victims of war crimes.
He recalled Kosovo’s commitment from the very establishment of the court in 2016, highlighting it as a significant act in strengthening the rule of law and addressing the crimes of the past.
“Just as we supported Kosovo in 1999, we continue to support it today through our backing of the rule of law and the independence of the Specialist Chambers, which are an integral part of its legal system,” the Ambassador stated, as reported by Telegrafi.
He also acknowledged the sensitivity of the court’s mandate but stressed that its ability to communicate with the citizens of Kosovo should not be restricted. “Truth and justice must prevail,” the Ambassador wrote.
The President of the Kosovo Specialist Chambers in The Hague, Ekaterina Trendafilova, is currently in Kosovo. She was scheduled to hold a press conference, but it was canceled on Tuesday for security reasons following a protest organized by veterans of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) in front of the hotel where the event was to be held.
According to an official statement from the Specialist Chambers, the decision to cancel the conference was made in the interest of public safety and based on the advice of the Kosovo Police. During the protest, veterans threw black smoke and chanted “KLA, KLA,” expressing their dissatisfaction with Trendafilova’s visit. The KLA War Veterans Organization described the visit as “unacceptable and offensive,” accusing the Specialist Chambers of an arrogant approach and distorting national history.
