The United Kingdom’s Ambassador to Kosovo, Jonathan Hargreaves, has emphasized the importance of respecting constitutional deadlines for the election of the new President.
Speaking to T7, Ambassador Hargreaves said that the vote recount process is essential for safeguarding the integrity of the electoral process, as it demonstrates the system’s capacity to identify and correct weaknesses.
“This demonstrates the system’s ability to identify shortcomings and address them in order to preserve the integrity of elections. Naturally, this carries certain risks in terms of timelines, and I hope the Commission completes the recount as quickly as possible,” he stated.
Hargreaves stressed that once the recount is completed, political parties must come together, allowing the Assembly to be constituted and the government to begin its work, so that the budget and international agreements can be approved without delay.
“It is also extremely important that the process of electing the new President takes place within the prescribed deadlines. I am confident that all political parties are committed to this, as everyone understands how vital these processes are for Kosovo,” he added.
The British ambassador further underlined that Kosovo must make tangible progress toward integration in 2026.
“In 2026, as Kosovo enters its 19th year of statehood, it is essential to have a government capable of acting decisively, making progress toward integration into the European Union and other international organizations, and continuing along the democratic path that has been impressive in recent years,” Hargreaves said.
