The British Embassy in Iran has been temporarily closed and will now operate remotely, a government spokesperson confirmed on Wednesday. According to the statement, the UK Foreign Office has updated its travel advice to reflect the change in consular operations.

The decision follows the withdrawal of British military personnel from a U.S. base in Qatar, as Washington has also begun pulling some staff from the Al Udeid Air Base, the largest U.S. military installation in the region.

Growing concerns over a potential U.S. military intervention in Iran have prompted several European countries to issue urgent warnings to their citizens. Italy and Poland have called on their nationals to leave Iran “immediately”, citing escalating security risks.

Meanwhile, Iran has warned that it would retaliate against U.S. military bases across the region should any attack occur, further heightening fears of a broader regional escalation.

The temporary closure of the British Embassy underscores the deteriorating security environment in the Middle East, as diplomatic missions and governments take precautionary measures amid rising uncertainty.
