British Member of Parliament Alicia Kearns has welcomed the partial lifting of European Union restrictive measures against Kosovo, describing the decision as long overdue and justified.

Kearns stressed that the sanctions should never have been imposed on Kosovo in the first place, recalling that Serb List representatives voluntarily boycotted local elections, while Serbia-backed paramilitary groups wounded 30 KFOR soldiers during 2023.

She also referred to the armed attack in Banjska, emphasizing that it was carried out by a paramilitary force led by former Serb List deputy leader Milan Radoičić. According to Kearns, the group was trained at Serbian military bases, used Serbian army weapons, and was responsible for the killing of Kosovo police officer Afrim Bunjaku.

“Sanctions against Kosovo were unjust, and any remaining measures must be fully lifted,” Kearns underlined.

She added that the focus must now shift toward holding Radoičić and his collaborators accountable, while at the same time strengthening shared regional security and supporting Kosovo’s clear Euro-Atlantic future.

Kearns concluded that justice, accountability, and regional stability should remain at the center of EU and international engagement in the Western Balkans.
