British Member of Parliament Alicia Kearns, who frequently brings Balkan issues to the attention of the UK Parliament, has warned that the region must not be allowed to fall outside the focus of the United Kingdom.
Speaking about the situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kearns commemorated the victims of the Srebrenica genocide and said that peace should never be taken for granted, Gazeta Express reports.
She said that Bosnia has experienced a difficult year marked by contested laws and the actions of the nationalist former president of Republika Srpska, Milorad Dodik.
“Last week, at the Council of Europe, I called on the international community to come together and commit to a safe and stable Bosnia, firmly rooted in the European family, where it belongs,” she said.
However, she concluded with a warning for the entire region.
“But remember my words: we in this chamber must not take our attention away from the Balkans. The threat of conflict remains ever present,” Kearns said.
