British Prime Minister Keir Starmer will present a plan to U.S. President Donald Trump in a meeting next week in Washington, proposing the deployment of up to 30,000 European troops to Ukraine to maintain a U.S.-mediated ceasefire agreement, according to The Telegraph.

According to sources, Starmer will outline in detail how these troops could enforce the eventual ceasefire agreement and argue that it is in the interest of the U.S. to continue its efforts to prevent a third Russian invasion after the fighting ends.

As part of the Anglo-French plan, fewer than 30,000 troops would be deployed—under the command of European countries—across Ukrainian cities, ports, and other critical infrastructure facilities, such as nuclear power plants, located far from the current frontline.

“Instead of sending a much larger contingent to Ukraine, the mission would rely on technical monitoring through secret service aircraft, surveillance and reconnaissance, drones, and satellites to provide a full picture of what is happening,” said a Western official.

The source added that the operation would be supported by sufficient firepower to “detect and repel attacks” in order to reopen Ukraine’s airspace and restore commercial flights.
