British Foreign Secretary David Lammy and Defense Secretary John Healey have been on a tour of the Middle East – including Lebanon.

As part of this visit, both cabinet ministers have called for a de-escalation of tensions on the Blue Line – the demarcation line that separates Israel and Lebanon.

“This is a worrying time for people in Lebanon: they have been through a lot in the last five years, including the terrible port explosion that took so many lives,” Lammy said.

“I am here on the ground meeting with influential figures to call for immediate de-escalation in the region,” he added.

“I have raised my concerns about the ongoing tensions between Lebanon and Israel and have emphasized the UK’s determination to avoid miscalculations.”

Healey said de-escalation should be the main focus as this region is at a crossroads.

He further assessed that the loss of innocent lives in recent weeks and months is unbearable. “This has to end,” Healey said, Sky News reports.

“All parties must withdraw from the conflict and increase diplomacy. We will work with important partners like Qatar as our government leads a renewed push for peace,” he added.
